Program: Social Media Networking

Alan Johnston, Net Media Thailand
Facebook for business and Social Media the end all and be all of Marketing.
Alan Johnston

International Business Association of Phuket

Net media is an online marketing company, with the wherewithal to create, manage and expose you to all the elements that are a vital part of your marketing and Branding growth.

We have been in South East Asia for 5 years focusing on the Thai Market. We have been physically attending the networking scene and growing our own brand online and keeping abreast of all the changes to On-line media and the phenomenal growth of this medium.

We began our journey working on contactbangkok.com and began to see the power of directories linking back to websites and the Search Engine Optimization this provides, we researched Social Media and Banner advertising, we understand the difference between throwing mud at the wall marketing to the quintessential difference targeted marketing can make, we know the difference between branding and advertising. We can make an event happen even if it's next week.

We have spoken at various events on Social Media Marketing and we have written various blogs and press releases to huge audiences. We know how to bookmark and ping and we also consult and create viral You tube videos and promote them to a huge audience.

All of these elements are pivotal in growing your brand online and getting visitors to your website and getting your website 'up there' in the search engines.

The Question is not should you engage in Social media its how you should.  More about Net Media »

Program Topic: Phuket International Film Festival Peeks & Previews

Pictures from our May meeting: Phuket Film Festival

The Trials & Tribulations behind the coming Phuket International Film Festival.

Says Scott Rosenberg, Phuket International Film Festival Organizer: "From June 4 - 13 2010 on the beautiful international tourist destination of Phuket (Thailand) the 2nd edition of the Phuket Film Festival is being planned. The second edition of the Festival will lay the groundwork for a sustainable annual event which will not only help raise visibility of Phuket as a quality tourist destination but also act as an anchor event drawing tourism during Phuket's low season. The Phuket Film Festival also serves not only to promote tourism but as an event which showcases culture and heritage as well.

"While the history of the Phuket Film Festival is fraught with many of the same trials and tribulations the Cannes International Film Festival underwent in its start up days (1940's), the Phuket Festival, like the Cannes Festival, is determined to move forward in establishing a major international film festival on Thailand's international tourist destination of Phuket."

The 2010 Festival will be the third film festival in Thailand organized by Scott Rosenberg, managing director of AMW International. The first was for the Thai Board of Investment at the Lamchabang Industrial Fair in 1995. The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Film Festival was the first time film makers from across the region had the opportunity to come together and not only screen their films but also to network with one another.

Some Sound Bytes following the April meeting.

"What a positive experience it was to speak at an International Business Association of Phuket meeting! The audience was involved and attentive, everyone asked terrific questions, and I enjoyed all of the active post-meeting conversations, too. The organization and coordination of the meeting was superb, and the atmosphere was professional yet comfortable. Speakers, if you get asked to present to IBAP, be sure to accept! You won't regret it."

— Brenda Bence

Brand Development Associates

"I very much enjoyed IBAP's evening last Friday. Apart from the usual valuable and enjoyable networking, I particularly enjoyed Brenda Bence's marketing presentation and I left the evening with several ideas for improving my own business' marketing which can be easily and inexpensively implemented. "

— Graeme Chuck, Managing Director

Shades (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

"Thank you for the excellent evening last Friday night. Apart from the usual banter with business associates that I normally do not see, I found your guest speaker highly informative. While we all enjoy our 'Phuket lifestyle' it does become somewhat insular to the rest of the word, and we all need a breath of fresh air & some international flavour to try to increase our business outlook & perspective. Keep up the good work."

— Peter Tucker, Managing Director

Prodecon

"It was fantastic to have such an accomplished speaker as Brenda present her program on marketing & branding to the IBAP members. The topic was interesting, the content rich and the presentation professional. We certainly wouldn't hesitate to welcome her back to speak in the future."

As a special follow up to our February meeting...
Open Source and Cloud based Software for your business
..................that doesn' cost the Earth
By Clive Roberts BSc (hons), MA Int. Ed.

Thank you to all those that attended my presentation at the recent IBAP Meeting "I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did".

For those IBAP members that were unable to attend I have wrapped the presentation slides up into a PDF document and placed a link to it at the bottom of my web site home page: www.open4yourbiz.com

Please also take a look at the Solutions page where you will find the Open Source solutions demonstrated during the presentation. As stated all Open Source applications shown are freely downloadable from the Download page.

I have also added more links to the Support page - A link to some FREE online OpenOffice learning materials and the OpenOffice guide to migration for MS Office users.

There was a suggestion at the presentation that some members would like to participate in a more 'hands-on' Open Source seminar and I will certainly be trying to organise this in the near future.

As an offer to IBAP members I can also visit you at your business for a one-to-one Open Source consultation allowing you to try these Open Source web based applications first hand (and install some on your computer). Although there will be an initial charge of 3,000 baht for a two hour consultation this will be refundable for IBAP members against future investment in Open4YourBiz solutions, support or training.

Online Demo's will be available shortly - Please click the Request a Demo button on our Web Site, complete your details and click the Send button. For any other correspondence or requests please use our Contact page.

Open Source and Cloud based Software for your business.
Presentation by Clive Roberts BSc (hons), MA Int. Ed.
International Business Association of Phuket

Is all of your software legal?
Is your software vendor/platform dependent?
Can you access your software 24/7 from anywhere?
Do your staff communicate effectively?
Can your staff collaborate effectively?
How much does it all cost?

Clive Roberts is an experienced International educator and former Head of ICT at the British International School in Phuket. As a resident in Thailand for more than 18 years Clive has spent more than half of that time in Phuket. His professional qualifications include an honours degree in Computer Science and an MA in International Education (University of Bath) and his professional experience includes holding 'Head of ICT' positions in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, and Phuket.

Clive has recently established Reflex Education Solutions - an independent Phuket based Education solutions Company. Reflex offers open source web based software solutions for Education including a Web based desktop, eLearning, student information system, library system, a CMS and Openoffice. Solutions include installation, hosting and setup, development, training and support. Reflex are developing an 'Open4Ed' initiative, that seeks to integrate open source solutions into one web based platform that is hardware independent and can be accessed 24/7 from anywhere.

So how can Reflex Education Solutions help your business?

Many of the same tenets applicable to software for schools can also be applied to your business. A wide range of open source software solutions are available including (but not limited to) Web based desktop, accounting, CRM, staff training, CMS, and Linux/Openoffice. Recognising this Reflex is also developing an Open4YourBiz' model that will offer integrated open source web based solutions for your business.

Clive will introduce the concept of open source software and try to dispel some of the myths that surround it. He will also consider the inexorable shift towards Cloud computing (often referred to as 'software as a service' or SaS) and preview some of the latest open source and cloud based software solutions.   more about Reflex Smart learning solutions.

Following the February meeting, speaker Clive Roberts says...

"Thank you to all those that attended my presentation at the recent IBAP Meeting, 'I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.' "
